Anatahan Volcano Update, July 7-11
July 11, 2003
08:00 A.M. Pacific/Saipan (GMT+10 hours)
The eruption continues to wane, as shown by decreasing amplitudes of volcanic tremor and our close observations on July 9. On that day, two passes in the helicopter about 9 hours apart revealed only white steam low in the east crater and a low amount of light brown fume without ash emission.

An EMO crew installed a seismic station on Sarigan Island, about 25 km (22 miles) north of Anatahan, to help with the monitoring of Anatahan and, ultimately, transmission of seismic data through the entire length of the arc.
