Anatahan Volcano Update

Anatahan Volcano Update for March 30-April 1, 2004

A seismic swarm began beneath Anatahan Island on March 31. This is the third such swarm since the eruption of May-June 2003. The swarm is continuing at this time, and a little more than 100 events have been recorded so far. The largest events so far are all smaller than those
that occurred during the previous swarm, in early February 2004. These events likely result from magma movement and degassing beneath the recently active crater.
