Anatahan Volcano Update for April 12, 2004
Submitted Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 0430 local Anatahan time

For the past day, Anatahan volcanic seismicity has been quite high, though not quite as high as during its peak on April 6-7, the highest level since the eruptions of May-June 2003. The presence of a new lava dome within a crescent-shaped crater lake has now been confirmed. Fresh ejecta within the lowest reaches of the crater has also been confirmed. Steam and (or) ash emissions are likely occurring to altitudes of less than 3,000 ft (1,000 m) but could increase in height relatively abruptly without much warning.
