Anatahan Volcano Update for April 13, 2004
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 1000 local Anatahan time

For the past day or so, Anatahan volcanic seismicity has been quite high, though not quite as high as during its peak on April 6-7, the highest level since the eruptions of May-June 2003. The presence of a new, rather flat dome within the crater has now been confirmed. Fresh ejecta
has been observed near the crater rim. Steam and (or) ash emissions are likely occurring several times per day to altitudes of less than 3,000 ft (1,000 m), but emissions or eruptions to higher altitudes could occur without much warning.
