Anatahan Volcano Update for April 14, 2004
Submitted Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 1000 local Anatahan time

For the past day or so, the volcanic seismicity at Anatahan has been high, though somewhat lower than it was during its peak on April 6-7, the highest level since the eruptions of May-June 2003. The presence of a new, rather flat dome within the crater, and fresh ejecta around the
crater rim, have now been confirmed. Steam and (or) ash emissions are likely occurring several times per day to altitudes of less than 3,000 ft (1,000 m), but eruptions to higher altitudes may occur with little warning.
