Anatahan Volcano Update
Anatahan Volcano Update for April 17, 2004
Submitted Sunday, April 18, 2004 at 1100 local Anatahan time
For the past day or so, the volcanic seismicity at Anatahan has been very high, similar to the
peak on April 6-7, the highest level since the eruptions of May-June
2003. Extrusion of a new dome
apparently is continuing, and steam and ash emissions are likely
occurring several times per day, reaching altitudes of
less than 3,000 ft (1,000 m). Eruptions to higher
altitudes could occur at any time with little or no warning.
