Anatahan Volcano Update for April 24, 2004
Submitted Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 2100 local Anatahan time

Anatahan seismic activity increased abruptly at 00:52 4/24 UTC, 10:52 4/24 CNMI to high levels unseen since summer  2003, marking a significant increase in Anatahan's eruptive activity from quiet effusion of small
amounts of lava to a more energetic eruption. The eruptive activity
now appears to be as energetic as the eruptions of mid-June 2003. Seismic activity peaked at about 0800 UTC, 1800 CNMI and is slowly declining
at the time of this report. The next update will be at 15:00 4/24 UTC, 01:00 4/25 CNMI.
