Anatahan Volcano Update for April 25, 2004
Submitted Sunday, April 25, 2004 at 0100 local Anatahan time

Anatahan seismic activity increased abruptly at 0052 4/24 UTC (1052
4/24 CNMI) to a high level unseen since summer 2003, marking a significant
increase in Anatahan's eruptive activity from quiet effusion of small
amounts of lava to a more energetic eruption. The eruptive activity
now appears to be as energetic as some of the eruptions of mid-June
2003. Seismic activity continues near its peak level.
The next update will be at 1900 4/24 UTC (0500 4/25 in CNMI).
