November 29, 1975 Earthquake Intensity

Isoseismal map of the Island of Hawaii

Isoseismal map of the Island of Hawaiʻi for the November 29, 1975 earthquake. The epicenter is indicated by the yellow circle.

The shock was strong enough to be felt as far away as Kauaiʻi, more than 500 km from the epicenter. The Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale was used; each Roman numeral represents one intensity report or the average of several. Much of Hawaiʻi is not populated, so direct observations of ground shaking and its effects are not known for large areas. The manually drawn isoseismals are shown by red solid and dashed lines where they are well and poorly defined, respectively.
