Poster Contest: 100 years of volcano watching on Hawai‘i Island
In January 2012, the U.S. Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) will
celebrate its 100th "birthday." In honor of its centennial, HVO is hosting a poster
contest for Hawai‘i Island students.
The contest is open to all 4th grade students enrolled in Hawai‘i Island public,
private, charter, or home schools. Posters should convey a message about HVO and the study
of Hawaiian volcanoes by focusing on one of these themes:
- 100 years of volcano watching on Hawai‘i Island
- HVO scientists use many tools and techniques to monitor volcanoes
- I ka nānā no a ‘ike (By observing, one learns)
