The long barrier has been overridden by the `a`a flow, which is spreading toward the Coast Guard residence area at the start of the road to the lighthouse. Lava has tunneled under the third Kuki`i-Kapoho barrier and appears south of the barrier, where it destroyed the Kapoho School on January 28.
