Map of Historical Lava Flows

Simplified map of many historical lava flows on Mauna Loa

Simplified map of Mauna Loa on the Island of Hawai`i showing the historical lava flows that cover 806 square kilometers, nearly 16 percent of the volcano's surface. Dates are provided for only 19 of the volcano's 33 historical eruptions (dates for the other lava flows can't be shown easily at this scale).

For a complete listing of historical eruptions (date and duration of eruption, area covered by lava, volume of lava erupted, vent locations) see the Mauna Loa eruption summary table.
